Interview with Babacar Khane: "applications of yoga are full current"

The Egyptian Yoga developed by Babacar Khane is an original teaching of easy access and very adapted to Western people. We today talked to. b Khane from its beginnings in the yoga and also that adaptation of the teachings of yoga to another culture and another time.

Babacar khane

He was born in Dakar in 1935 in a sufi family, but he considers himself as a citizen of the world. From an early age he became interested in the spirit through the body, expressing a mystical nature. At the age of 18 he found an Indian teacher who revealed to him the Hinduism and the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda.

He moved to the India to meet with the disciples of Yogananda, who received a complete teaching of Yoga of Patanjali and Kriya Yoga. Doctor in osteopathy and chiropractic, Yogi Khane has worked closely with personalities from the medical world, especially psychiatrists and rheumatologists. For many years she worked with and researched with the famous gerontologist and rheumatologist Dr. Baumgartner, with whom he collaborated in the treatment of rheumatic patients.

Babacar Khane, synthesis man persuaded the deep spiritual unity of mankind, has developed an original method of teaching by associating three disciplines: the Hatha Yoga of India, the internal styles of Kung-Fu (Nei Shia) and the Yoga of the ancient Egypt. This partnership has allowed him to create more effective yoga techniques in the prevention and treatment of many diseases.

He is the founder of the Institut International de Yoga, with sections in several countries around the world. Poet and writer, he has published books as The Yoga of the Pharaohs, invitation to the Yoga, the Yoga of verticality, the Yoga of the word and The Yoga of prayer.

How did you to yoga?

I was born in a sufi family where are advised to practice yoga. In one of the large branches of Sufism, yoga is considered a discipline that accelerates the spiritual evolution, favors meditation and the control itself, key elements in this way. The idea of practicing yoga is present in all the Sufi cultivated. Even the sufi tradition is recommended to get the truth to the India or China. All these reasons led me to the practice of yoga.

As received the? the Parmahansa teaching Yogananda?

Very young, I had the great pleasure to meet with the Shankara Yogi, who was traveling in Africa, and I started in Mantra Yoga. Then I received the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda for seven years, in the course of which performed several stays in its ahsrams of the India and us. It was in some exercises of Yogananda)energizing exercises) where I found the rules and techniques of the contractions and relaxations. It was therefore Yogananda who put me on the path of Kung-Fu (in which deepened after starting me in martial arts). Was he also who directed my research toward the tradition of Egyptian Yoga. I was very impressed by a photograph that showed Yogananda in front of the Giza pyramids, on a trip he made to Egypt in 1935.

Among the essential points of the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda I highlight the opening all the traditions and the need for complementarity between East and West. All guides my approach in this regard.

What is your view of? the teaching of yoga?

It is necessary to adapt yoga without distorting it, based on the traditions of the India, China and the ancient Egypt to better respond to all therapeutic, psychological, and spiritual needs of present humanity. Although yoga is an ancient discipline, its applications are more than ever topical. In addition to the therapeutic aspects, there are many other areas where yoga can be a great help, even for people who are not interested in the path of spiritual research; for example, in the sport. In Senegal, Ivory Coast and other countries helped many national sports teams to win, with an emphasis on the management of stress and recovery.

What you think of? the teaching of Selvarajan Yesudian?

Although never has had the pleasure of meeting me with him, I quote willingly to Yesudian because it was the only Professor of hatha yoga contemporary talking contractions and relaxations. In his first book Yoga and sport published a series of contraction and relaxation exercises. His teachings in this area are very close to what I do in Kung-fu. It is proof that in the tradition of yoga the contraction and relaxation are known very well.

Really, if you know how to read, the contractions are clearly mentioned in the Hatha Yoga Pradipika (Treaty of the technique from Hatha Yoga). For example in Salabhasana, grasshopper, it is said that the leg should be as hard as a stick. This rating indicates that you have to get the leg (or legs) in this position. The web site of Dr. Pascal Prévost, Sciensport, talks about the effects of contractions and decontracciones, and asserts that it is a very effective way to combat aging and help repair muscle, ligament and tendon injuries. We can say that Thanks to the contractions the bones can regenerate; contractions and decontracciones improves the blood circulation, thus promoting the absorption of calcium. They are especially beneficial for those who have suffered fractures, promote bone reconstruction and maintain a good muscle tone despite immobilization which means plaster. German scientists at the University of Tübingen have studied the effects of contraction and decontracciones in athletes, showing that they improve performance and prevent accidents.

The idea of the process of adaptation of the teaching of yoga is not new: it is concerned in particular the Vinyasa Krama When talks about the road of gradual progression. Must make yoga accessible to all and let everyone enjoy the benefits of this discipline.
