Meeting with Swami Muktananda

He passed away Baba Muktananda in 1982. He was considered one of the great Kundalini Yogis and had thousands of disciples. Visited you to interview him in his ashram in Ganeshpuri (about sixty-five kilometers from Bombay, now Mumbai) a few months before her death. Calle Ramiro writes.

Baba MuktanandaWe were many years writing to us and he had patiently answered my questions of all kinds. But one day I received a letter in which said me that I was going to visit many Yogis and teachers in the India and never to him, and that I would not answer my questions if it wasn't in person. So I finally went to visit him and spent a whole day in his ashram, may attend satsang, receiving from him the mantra OM Namah Shivaia and interview him, then acting as translator the woman who then happen: Gurumayí.

I asked Baba Muktananda on ego and said:
The ego is the worst enemy that human beings have in this life. However, if the ego is pure if it is clean and authentic, the person has the consciousness of "I am the absolute". He feels that he is one with the divine. We suffer because of the impure ego, we are going from one side to another, we remain in deception. We believe that we are happy, but actually we go from one side to another with this illusion. So from the point of view of the great ones that have a pure ego, that have become one with God, our life is very limited.

What is the relationship between the ego and the mind?, I asked:
There isn't much difference between the mind and the ego. It is the mind which has become ego. The mind has many thoughts and doubts, many concepts. The person is wrapped by all of them and suffers in this way.

Meditation is one of the basic techniques of yoga. Can how transcend an intellectual meditation to one that is beyond the thinking process?
The main thing in yoga is meditation - said Muktananda - in fact, it is the basic of all systems of self-realization Foundation. During our waking hours we drink, eat, dance and enjoy other pleasures, and this does not bring us realization. At night we lay down to sleep and not to do any of these activities, and however, we wake up refreshed and eventful, showing that to relax your mind gets new energy. Sleep is only an outer form of meditation. Our meditation should not be oriented towards the intellect, the subconscious mind or ego, but to witness all of them.

What is more important, love or intelligence?
Intelligence and knowledge are only means to attain the love. Love is beyond the mind, the intellect. It is supremely independent. It has no image, or sex, or form. It does not have any signs. Knowledge is love and love is intelligence. Through mediation, when you you kind, when the kundalini, elcanzas that high love wakes up. The true form of God is the truth, happiness, complete love.

Can you describe the Kundani-yoga suscintamente?, I asked, addressing this form of yoga so idealising sometimes and so knew others.
Kundalini Yoga is the yoga class that can describe briefly, but widely, because holding with one hand the whole universe with the other the complete structure of the yoga. This Supreme light has two aspects, one inside and another outside. In its outward appearance Kundalini controls the entire universe in an orderly manner, but in its inner aspect remains asleep and if it could be awakened, it would lead to the Maha Yoga, great Yoga, and would handle it neatly. Kundalini Yoga is an independent yoga which completes himself without the help of other yoga or foreign practice. He is also known with Chiti Yoga. Chiti is the cosmic power that creates the universe from his own being. Static mode Kundalini sits in the middle of the human body, holding their nerve and leaves the body clean and radiant. Higher amounts, most makes one aware, both from the heart centre and other centres. If you reach the sahasrara (top center) there is revealed the divine light, in the midst of which glow Blue Pearl or Nil Bindu. As this is happening, Kundalini leads to the aspiring State of sahaja samadhi, samadhi natural, which can exceed the pleasure and pain, happiness and sadness. He fills his life of Supreme peace and happiness, and then your work is accomplished.

Is Kundalini Yoga a fusion of yogic and Tantric elements in what extent?
A great fusion of elements there is Tantric and yogic in Kundalini Yoga. In fact, all forms of yoga are called tantras. In fact, this involves four yogas: Hatha, Radja, Mantra and Laya. When all of them are combined, the result is Kundalini Yoga.

Do you think that it is advisable to concentration on the chakras?
There is no need to focus on the chakras. The mind must focus on where has to focus, i.e. on the inner self. The chakras are merely the chakras; the important thing is the being that it is beyond them. When one focuses on the inner light that controls all these chakras, then opens automatically.

To what extent can the repetition of a mantra favour the rise of Kundalini?
A mantra can provide immense assistance to the ascent of Kundalini, because she is very fond of mantras. Mantra is the same life of Kundalini, therefore we sing hymns describing it as the great mantra, as well as the supreme deity.

How should the Yogi is training for the perception of the purusha, the spiritual entity?
As one meditate more, much more, his consciousness amounts increasingly higher until it stabilises at the sahasrara, the highest Lotus, and as the meditation continues beyond the Nil Bindu or Blue Pearl emerges from the sahasrara. Yogi meditates on the Blue Pearl for awhile, until this is pleased, and then explodes and arises the blue purusha. One should be able to see the purusha at least once. He is the guru of each; It is also the true suprama and the Supreme principle.
