Yoga is an ancient, diverse and plural phenomenon that refuses to be defined. The archaeological evidences of the yoga and tell us who was born more than 5,000 years ago in the Highlands of the India that was subsequently adopted by Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. Therefore their oral cultural origins and its words have opened many branches in the tree.

Yoga has also permeated Western culture, but now millions of Westerners, although they do not know do not have a clear understanding of its origins, do yoga every day.

Yoga is the result of a process of thousands of years of evolution of his philosophy. These numerous branches of yoga, or spokes of the wheel, represent different schools, the ring that symbolizes the requirements shared by all types of yoga, while in the Center would be the ecstatic experience which the practitioner - Yogi or Yogini - transcends. All "authentic Yoga" forms are forms of a single centre of transcendent reality.

The root shamanic yoga

Some archaeologists and scholars of yoga have found elements of the same in the stone age of shamanism dating back at least to 25,000 years before Christ, and perhaps before. That sacred shamanism or art of connecting life, changed the consciousness of the one to enter the extraordinary and hidden paths of being and reality. In fact the shaman word meant "the traveller of a spiritual realm". Shamans could through the rhythm of the drum retrieve information from the other world and bring it to the present for the benefit of the community.

Though yoga probably did not grow of shamanism, what he did was absorb some of those elements, as the ability to transcend, asceticism, or the pursuit of enlightenment. The difference between them is great, as the Yogi aspires to the self-liberation more than to know what is happening "in another world". Some anthropologists believe that yoga emerged when communities governed by shamans went to City-States, this being the result of a social change that encouraged the transformation of consciousness of the community towards self-consciousness individual.

Yoga and shamanism share some metaphysical positions. Both practices suggest that there is more to the material body, and that we need to meditate and look inside. Both also aim to heal the body and the soul in various ways. Certain functional activities, such as increased body temperature, sweating, purification, cleaning, playing a fundamental element in both.

The five tibetan-practical yogic Tibet-are an example of knowledge and teachings assembled. As any deep knowledge includes the use of medicinal plants and helps unlock the limits of the body, the mind and the spirit opening us to the true healing.

En la película del 2005 Orígenes del Yoga: en busca de lo espiritual, Feuerstein made the following statement: "many Yogis also conform to the role of Shaman, so serve the community as healers, Mages, wise men and peacemakers".
