The certificate of professionalism "Instruction in Yoga" at the Polytechnic University of Madrid

The Certificate of Professionalism "Instruction in Yoga" is a training project that began to develop at the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences – INEF of the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) in January 2015. On November 15, the sixth edition will begin (2019-2021), having passed through the classrooms of the Faculty more than a hundred students since starting this training.

The Certificate of professionalism "Instruction in Yoga" is an Official Accreditation that certifies the obtaining of a professional qualification from the National Catalogue of Professional Qualifications. It is issued by the Public Employment Service (SEPE) or, where appropriate, by the Autonomous Communities, and is valid throughout the national territory. In this sense, it is important to note that the UPM is the only public university center within the Community of Madrid, accredited by the Ministry of Economy, Employment and Finance and the Public Employment Service and the State Public Employment Service, to impart, in the face-to-face mode, the Certificate of Professionalism "Instruction in Yoga", regulated by Royal Decree 1076/2012, of July 13.

Previous way, on 4 August 2011, the Royal Decree 1034 / 2011, of July 15, which contained five qualifications of the professional family physical activities and sports, established the training associated with the professional qualification of instruction in Yoga (see Figure 1).

"According to the Royal Decree, the formation is designed so students can acquire the competence of"program, direct and stimulate activities of instruction in yoga in accordance with the guidelines set out in the programming of reference, with techniques and specific postures, aimed at all types of practitioners and adapting them to their needs for care and improves body, increase the perception of well-being and foster personal fulfilment, in safety and with the level of quality service that will allow the same satisfaction".

Have a certificate of professionalism is, without a doubt, substantially increasing the professional curriculum, as to being an official degree, could require in the selection processes of the different public administrations inviting places for this professional profile. In addition, it could also be enforceable, as it is already the case in some instances, for the exercise of the profession at the private level, as determined by the specific legislation that each autonomous community to develop in this respect. Thus, for example, in the case of the community of Madrid, the certificate of professional instruction in Yoga, such and as set out in the Act 6/2016 of regulation of the professions of sport in the community of Madrid, it is enabling the development of the profession of instruction in Yoga. In this case as in others in which there is specific legislation, only valid certification with regard to the Administration to be able to practice the profession will be the certificate of professionalism "Instruction in Yoga".

Who is

The certificate of professionalism "Instruction in Yoga" developed by the Faculty of Sciences of the physical activity and sport - INEF (UPM), is aimed to practitioners of Yoga with experience, who want to expand and improve their training or this discipline to his profession. It is also an interesting option for practitioners and Yoga teachers who want to continue training and obtain official accreditation of "Instruction in Yoga".

The certificate has 550 hours (430 theoretical and practical hours and 120 hours of practices in companies in the sector) and follows the structure and contents included in the national catalogue of qualifications which established the Ministry of education, Culture and sport and the Ministry of labour and Social Affairs. However, since the beginning of the training, the UPM has opted to give the practical part a very rigorous approach, giving an important weight throughout the entire course and counted for their development with excellent professionals with proven experience in the field of Yoga.

Likewise, all people who are in contact with Yoga, are knowledgeable of the need to give time to the experimentation and assimilation of learnings, for the subsequent involvement in the teaching of this discipline. For this reason, it has opted for the organization of this training over two academic courses, starting on 15 November 2019 and ending on 3 July 2021, followed by a period of professional internship in entities in the sector. Throughout this period, the expert professors for the specific part of Yoga are coordinated with professionals and professors of the Faculty of Physical Activity and Sport Sciences, in order to develop all the theoretical-practical content that integrate Certificate of Professionalism.

Thus, in each edition of the course about 20 teachers participate. Among them, the teacher Ms. Montse Cob, is primarily responsible for the development of Yoga's practical content. Ms. Carmen Llauradó and Da Marta Espeita, they are responsible for imparting the fundamental ethical, philosophical and mystical principles of Yoga, as well as the contents of relaxation and meditation. Together with them, many professionals from the sector also collaborate in the Course, such as Mr Borja Romero, D. Emilio Buendía, Da. Isabel Arechabala, Da. Beatrice Rossi, Da. Miriam Sicilia, Da. Isabel de Castro, Mr Fernando Pardo, Da. Pilar Franco de Sarabia or Mr. Eduardo Juárez, among others.

It is important to highlight that the certificate of professionalism "Instruction in Yoga" taught at the Polytechnic University of Madrid does not correspond to any school or style in particular, but it is a basic and essential teaching applicable to all existing styles of yoga in today.
