The secrets of the postural alignment
Paquita Villalba reveals them, ahead of what will be your intensive course 1 and 2 February. Hatha Yoga with brackets is an opportunity to improve and advance your practice.
Paquita Villalba It is one of the pioneers of yoga in Madrid. He founded the Centro Dharana Yoga and for many years she has taught hundreds of students. He is currently training of teachers in training courses at the international school of Yoga, specializing in Asanas and pedagogy and teaching Iyengar and Hatha Yoga. Regularly holds workshops and intensive specialized.
The weekend of the 1-2 February We have the opportunity to attend to their Intensive course of Hatha Yoga with bracketswhich will work with blankets, cushions, chairs, belts, bricks... all that we need. We talked about this with Paquita Villalba.
We have the idea that braces are only suitable for people with physical limitations. Is it so?
Props are multipurpose. They serve for people with limitations, but they are also used for those who are fully trained physically, so with less effort they can get to the final position, always looking for the alignment of the body.
We also tend to think that we have to go beyond our own capabilities, the more far better.
No, that is not the aim of the intensive workshop or yoga. The aim of the course is that attendees learn to properly place each part of your body in every position, and that does not mean necessarily getting to the end of the asana, because sometimes in more beneficial to stay a little earlier.
There are people who are very flexible, which are very strong and very good practice, and make all the perfect positions; but we are not all equal, and yoga is for everyone. That is why it is better to stay at that point where he feels comfortable. I always say: you have to feel that pleasant feeling when you can really feel the body but at the same time comfort; you don't need to put tensions, you can feel how flows the breathing be agitated or choppy, as when it is forcing something. If you rebasas that point, you can do you harm; If you force, you can injure you. And that is not going to happen in this intensive.
It seems that perceive when one is aligned find us quite hard. And on the other hand don't usually explain carefully...
That of course does not occur in this school or will not occur in the intensive. You must be comfortable in the position but, eye, within the alignment of the body. When you are aligned, there is balance in body and in mind, it feels much more comfortable and the sensations are different.
You, who are a great specialist in posture correction, how you define alignment?
Consider the basic stance of Tadasana. It would distribute the weight of the body between the two feet, and to from there, start adjusting the legs, spine, the axis of the body; feel that the head is the continuation of the spine, shoulders are at the same height and away from the ears. That is the alignment, and when your body is properly aligned and balanced, so is the mind.
The good thing would be the practitioner to learn to align your body in every asana naturally, isn't it?
Of course, that is the aim of the intensive, just I want to get. In the course we will do that, in every position, every part of the body is positioned in place that has assigned that position. Students will make first position alone, then they will repeat with support groups, and then again alone. To notice the difference and perceive what to feel for the position when done correctly and when not.
The difficulty to practice only is that one is not, that need someone that will help you to position yourself. And sometimes a little touch or setting changes the position and feelings. Because if the body is properly placed, you are more comfortable and you'll focus much better, the sensations are different.
It is also to be able to concentrate...
Of course, and to see how breath flows. When a person is in a stationary asana and breathing is choppy, means that it is forcing, can even cause injury. If you are really well placed, do not have why force. You have to feel good, comfortable, enjoying, observing how your breathing flows. There is no tension. The body is active outside but relaxed on the inside to be able to stretch.
We have not spoken of the pelvic floor. How important is in the lineup?
Much, because if you really have the aligned pelvis, you have aligned the rest of the body, the hips and the spine. But to be able to align the pelvis, you have to begin by aligning the feet, well distributed weight between the two (if a bilateral stance). The feet are the base of the body, the foundations; If you do not enable them well and those who well typing system including body weight, it is impossible to align the rest, including the pelvic floor.
'S must recreate, reinterpret, the traditional postures?
Yes, when the basics are well mastered, you can make variants advanced course. This intensive workshop is open to everyone, and in particular to those who are being formed in the school. As we said at the beginning, not everyone can do all kinds of positions, because the yoga has many benefits but also its contraindications. Each person is advancing according to its possibilities.
What you offer to people to attend the course?
Learn how to align each posture. Feel better and more comfortable in every one. Advance in personal practice, because sometimes we stuck a little. Treat yourself to a weekend for yourself.
