The true Vipassana
In the West, and now also in the East, continue with the old hobby aguar, distort, falsify or even prostitution genuine traditions. It has happened with Yoga, Tantra, Vedanta and now with the Vipassana, given the Mindfulness fashion. Calle Ramiro writes.
The Mindfulness gives simplistamente, understand that it just enough to watch and sometimes reduced thereby true teaching which makes it a simple caricature of it. First you have to know for what and why to be careful and, second, What attentive. Are not extremely attentive a torturer, a terrorist, a torturer or a thief?
On one occasion, a hermit who came down from the mountains, passing through the city realized that a robber had entered through the window of a House and had stolen a few objects. His concentration was extraordinary, both is so when the thief came out, the hermit is you came and you said: "friend, are going to make an Exchange." You teach me concentration and I'll teach virtue."
If the Mindfulness or mindfulness is to apply ourselves to the harmful exploit, create attachment and aversion, turn your back to the true ethics, it is better not to have Mindfulness. If attention is to strengthen the ego and affirm the narcissism, compete without scruples, Excel and boast of being superior, both better is to give back to the Mindfulnes. But the Western mind - as now Orientale - all it wants to monetize. Thus, techniques of self-realization used in its origins to weaken the ego, detached and overcome the aversion, now sometimes used for anything.
Vipassana means vision penetrative and clear; vision pure or nude, free of judgments and prejudices, of what is. A vision as well, supported in the virtue and aimed to develop wisdom or understanding correto, transforms and pound the mind of obscurations such as the greed, the hate and the obfuscation. It is, therefore follow the triple discipline or training: the ethical, the concentration and the cultivation of wisdom.
Transformative and liberating character
Vipassana or deep vision also carries the clear understanding or lucidity. By Vipassana one sees the reality behind appearances, among other things, that everything is impermanent, unsatisfactory and absent from a fixed entity such as an ego. That vision full and deep, disarms the ego Struts and allows the person to find inner freedom and mental independence. Thus one is free of the obfuscation and, to the do it, also of the greed and the hate and others obscurations and corruptions of mind. The self-deceptions fade.
Mindfulness becomes so its transformative and liberating, that helps the person to be a much more healthy and balanced, improving its relations with itself and with others. But if the attention is undue and gets to grasping service, selfishness, spite or other toxic emotions, rather than release, slaves; instead of expanding, Contracting; rather than person to become itself, which follow anchored in their pettiness, silly attachments and all its mass of neuroses and suffering.
Vipassana meditation (same as the radja-yoga and others) aims to develop that pure vision (Patanjali) and processing to the person consciously evolve and develop the four sublimidades of the mind: love, compassion, joy shared (an antidote to envy) and equanimity. What is Mindfulness if it is for feedback on the side avariento and aversion of the mind and accumulate more obfuscation, most say egotism and confer to mind States of confusion rather than insight?
There is that complement the meditation with the establishment of the attention in them activities that one leads to out and also in watch the mind and them words. As Buddha said: "If you estimate you much, watch you well". But if a person does not meditate, even if try, won't be attentive. Meditation is the methodical training of attention to then deploy it in everyday life. Meditation or training for mental development is, in this sense, completely unavoidable. But another fallacy is to tell people that just watch, since no one gets it if really you not train you to do so, because otherwise is like invite someone to run the marathon without having trained for this purpose.
Vipassana meditation takes as an object of attention psychophysical processes themselves: body, sensations, perceptions, the contents of the mind and consciousness. Through observation of the psychophysical processes is consciously perceived the transience and arises the detachment and compassion. Lucidity and compassion. To the end, the important thing is to have a clear mind and a tender heart.
The importance of virtue
In my book The path of the full attention I insist much in triple discipline, warning that if it is missing the same one of its three links, this it is completely insufficient, and not say if missing two and is used only on the concentration.
Given that it is extremely important to consult serious works in this regard, above all, clear, for people who take seriously the issue, I have specially to recommend, as highly reliable, the works of the Venerable Nyanaponika Thera (he interviewed on numerous occasions), translated lecture and impeccably by Almudena Hauríe. Nyanaponika, I said a good book can be a teacher, and yours are highly solvent mentors.
It should be noted, forcefully, so brought and taken Mindfulness derived from yoga, Theravada Buddhism and Zen, but insists that in the three aforementioned traditions in the need to associate the growing attention to the observance of the virtue and the development of correct understanding. Are the virtue and the understanding correct who make it care in purifying, transformartiva and liberating.
