From where is born the vocation of a trainer of yoga?

Every day we propose more courses teacher training Yoga and specialization in many of the materials that compose it. The variety of the offer is considerable and very varied in approaches, times and content. Today chatted with Mayte servant on what moves to the teachers of yoga, veteran and novice, to do is forming.


From where is born the vocation of teaching Yoga? What we drives to wanting to be teachers or trainers of this discipline millennial? Is it sensible to aspire to prepare some students, soon enough to teach them? Is it ethical that economic motivation influences the decision to share what transformed us life?

There are many issues in this multi-faceted and often controversial subject of yoga teacher training. Today we speak with an expert trainer of teachers, Mayte Criado, 15 years preparing instructors and teachers of yoga as a founder of the international school of Yoga Centre very dump in a full program of training in different cycles.

How about this ever-growing phenomenon of new formations of instruction in yoga? Do you perceive it as well?

Yes, every day there are more people who become formers of yoga teachers, each day goes faster. You could make a list of eight or ten formations that are now available and we have formed as teachers in our school. With this and other courses that can be made out Spain on other styles, they mounted a training structure.

It is difficult to comment on it; would have to learn about each case. Of course that everyone has the right to become a trainer, as we all started to become one at some point. But it is true that there may be some opportunism, taking advantage of the fact that yoga is "fashion".

I accept that the very young people want to occupy that space, but I don't think in haste, in the immediacy with which it acts. It seems that not is is feeding the essence of the yoga but the consumerism of the yoga, and that is where it is very difficult to judge.

What often rating them practitioners of yoga that decide to form are as teachers of yoga?

I every day believe more in le criterion of them people that van to go to form is, each day I give more has of that there are much people that knows what seeks in all them addresses. There are people that only seek the yoga as substitute of the aerobics and other practices similar, and not them want nothing more. Not looking to make the tour of a discipline with centuries of history. Then, it is good to find that seeking. And those formations exist, fulfilled that function for that type of people.

And then there are others, most I would say, looking for a training with a methodology proposed by the profound meaning of yoga and a pedagogy that provide the tools of yoga to grow, to self-realization, to evolve as human beings and spiritual beings, etc. And those people too, if only intuitively, know distinguish these formations.

It must be said that there are also schools with many years of history and prestige and are too traditional and closed to include evolution of yoga and new perspectives, which also makes it necessary. And I think that many aspiring to be teachers of yoga also know to distinguish this. I hope that people who are looking for a way of self-realization in yoga and also share with others, know how to distinguish.

Ideally, what should be the motivations that drive a yoga teacher to become trainer of teachers?

The problem of the trainers who only have three or four years of experience in the world of yoga is that, from my point of view, lack of personal contributions. The contents of their programmes are copied or merged, taking a little here and another little beyond the courses that have made. In reality they are not creating or contributing and, as they are not educators, use the methodology of someone. But, care, I'm speaking in general, because there are some contributions very valid.

As many students receiving school is happening we, every day, is that there are many people who come wandering by that kind of formations, disappointed, with complaints. In the end they just wanted a school with more history, more experienced.

It must be difficult to choose between formations that increasingly demand more hours, more agenda, to try to filter out the best, and other schools whose demands are much lighter.

Nor there is so much difference between the schools of popularity, by thus tell it... Everything depends on the evolution of each one, until where want to engage and transmit. Usually in very traditional schools, following lines and very closed lineages, they usually tend to lengthen the training by very specific interests. But that not want to say that a training that lasts two or three years is worst, not. It is obvious that training of teachers cannot last a year, clear that no, but neither has to last for four or five.

Is a good idea starting by a first cycle or level of instructor in a school and test if is want to continue or not?

Many people do that. According to the experience that I provide my own students, the greater part of them people that come to the training of Instructor of Yoga of our first level, that hard a year, not have intention of convert is in teachers of yoga. Come with intention of deepen in the yoga, see what there is behind them tools that receive, know the philosophy of the yoga, the essence, know more than what them explain in a class normal of hour and half. This type of people many times has enough with studying a year; It will not teach, but that year transformed her life, because access learn more yourself through what yoga is proposing and that touch deep in yoga. I always put much emphasis on that that first year out a before and an after in the life of the student.

Our second level is already part of the creation of a teacher, as we come to know what you need for you to create your own classes, your own series, etc. and deeper parts of the philosophy of yoga. But the first year of our school is wonderful precisely because we know that many people have just with the feeling of having deepened much and have transformed their lives. But not is a change to another life, but one is embraces to his own life, is a return to one same. Also you get a much more accurate practice, much greater sensitivity, and this brings a lot more discretion when it comes to different teachers know, register for courses, etc.

You're a veteran trainer of trainers of yoga. What are the enemies of the trainers who have been many years teaching?

In my case I am very alert not to anchor me nuncto. I have always very much that must always be open to evolve and to feel that the world changes and advances because students outperform their teachers… I really welcome the evolution of my own students, I learn a lot, and I try to be very open to integrate what I learn from them. I believe much in this, in the integration of the new (provided that respect and contribute to the essence of yoga, that you do not disconnect from the depths).

I like to be aware if I am now repeating my patterns and closing me or not. We all know great teachers, and when we hear them say the same thing, is still gorgeous... but you realize that there is no more... and how good would they listen to students who exceed them and make a little better what they have taught... I have students as well, and I love to open them and work with them.

That must be the greater satisfaction for a trainer of trainers...

Oh, yes. All my team is composed of people who trained me, and they know much more than I am today of some things that are investigating more. And moreover they are age do so...!
