Intensive theory and practice of Pranayama
The Sanskrit term pranayama an extensive set of techniques known to control the prāṇa, a concept which means at the same time energy and life. Prāṇa is a term Sanskrit to be called the energy essential of the universe, and is concept untranslatable in all its depth to our language. On the other hand ayāma means control and expand or extend. Hence was born the term to describe the set of techniques of control of the breath, pranayama: control or expansion of prāṇa, of universal energy that runs through our body.
The prāṇa is pervading life, force or any activity which of itself is inert, inactive. In the culture scientific, its forms more known are the different energies that contemplates the Science: electricity, magnetism, energy Atomic, etc. However, traditionally, the prāṇa is the evolutionary engine that can be found in the five elements of nature: Earth, water, air, light and space.
Given the variety of manifestations, the prāṇa can be found in everything that gives us strength and health: sunlight, air, water and pure food. But not only on specific things; also is found in the emotions positive (joy, love, serenity), the actions pure and the behavior correct.
The prāṇa is intimately connected with our mental and spiritual aspects. For this reason, the concentration during the execution of the exercises is essential. However, the most important source of the prāṇa is the atmosphere. Through pranayama we regulate the prāṇa within ourselves, through some breathing exercises. In this way we can influence its acquisition from abroad and its distribution within the body.
(The aim is double: 1) fill us with vital energy that improve us physical health, and 2) activate certain energies latent within us that we can connect with other deeper dimension, with another way of "seeing" reality.
