Yoga and sexuality

I am surprised that any contributor to this digital publication has taken yet in this matter, because most of the time that I have spoken about yoga before an audience not familiar with this science, the interest has arisen at some point. For example: "Improve yoga sexuality?". Joaquín G. Weil writes.

Yoga sexualidad

I have clear, answered Yes. If the practice of yoga improves everything in person, because this aspect also. While it is necessary to give the word sexuality of a broad and own sense and not be merely in the desire and satisfaction, which would be the most crude and superficial Word sense.

And, speaking of desire, should know in what stands out of the will or wanting to. The desire is samsaric, moves us from the outside in a way not autodeterminado, while wanting to or the will moves us from the inside, because we choose it or determine.

Sexuality is a powerful force of nature. According to psychologists, it transcends what is mere desire and pursuit and works as energy that brings people, the famous libido, and the no less famous filias, love, as they called it ancient. In women the benefits of yoga stretches, surprisingly, pregnancy, and also the functions of
motherhood, such as breastfeeding.

Asanas that most benefit the sex organs are the opening of the pelvic area, as Baddha Konasana, Upavistha and its variants, also those of the Lotus, and many others with this effect. Relieve the discomfort of menstruation in women and are also indicated in pregnancy, with appropriate precautions and the specialized supervision. These same positions are best for preventing ailments of the uterus in women or the prostate in men, disorders that often occur from certain ages.

Most known is the assertion (would have to prove it statistically) that no Indian Shoemaker suffers from prostate, precisely because they exert their trade position Baddha Konasana, ensuring shoes between the soles of the feet to work with them in this way.

Important also Utkatasana and all positions of squatting (always with the heels on the floor), which strengthen the pelvic floor, important issue for the region of the lower abdomen, pregnancy, childbirth and to alleviate possible disorders relating to these areas, in addition to other benefits. This same function it also plays Tolasana and all the asanas, variations and exercises that strengthen the perineum.

Yoga benefits throughout the body, including the genital tract. And, in addition, calm the mind, which also benefits the psychological aspects of sexuality. From this point of view, bending forward, in particular Paschimottanasana and deep push-ups, calms the mind and the heart.

Sexuality and consciousness

The psychological factor of fertility (the woman and the man also) is undeniable. For example, I have heard on more than one occasion the history of a supposedly sterile couple who adopts a baby and on the way to pick it up or soon after, comes the desired natural pregnancy. I think that you don't have to be a psicomago Jodorowsky to interpret the issue.

I am by the way that the regular and constant practice of yoga improves the functionality and sexual fertility. There is also another aspect, which I think would matter by itself to another article, and the interrelationship that has the sexuality with consciousness.

In the West it has tended to present the spiritual as opposed to the body, skin and body like snug to the pleasure or pain. What they teach us philosophies of the East is the opposite and apparently paradoxical. El cuerpo es un camino hacia lo espiritual, in reality the only possible path. There the body, as well as pain or enjoyment, presents a third and certain way, which is the conscience. The body becomes a temple, as says the adage. When consciousness emerges in the body as a whole, as well as in their areas or functions, is no longer necessary to use unnecessarily to the pleasure to establish the connection between body and mind. The path of yoga is that frees us of possible errors, such as unbalanced food, problematic sexuality, the intoxicating or an addiction of any kind. Light contact with the body through the practice of asanas, the pranayama and meditation leads to welfare and wisdom.

Sexuality, in effect, is a fruitful and beneficial force. Thanks to her and the attention we lavished our parents are here in this world, but is also a powerful energy that must be observed carefully and closely.

The natural and simple framework of sexuality for people is the couple. The optimum, not only for the sexuality but also for well-being and emotional stability, and about everything - and this is the important thing - for the spiritual evolution of people, is the Constitution of a couple (who we can call "sacred") where both partners love each other, they advise, collaborate, etc. And that, eventually, it is a mighty fortress for the upbringing of children in a safe environment. That is what we consider ideal, because of so many novels, songs and movies because it appeals to an essential human longing.

Something as simple as two people meet, love one, and unite in harmony seems something divine and wonderful (on occasions, Titanic and rare effort to find). As always, the ideal should be reference and not cause suffering by his frequent lack.

Within the spiritual Dharma or religious appears as option monasticism or celibacy, which long ago dedicated an article. From a sociological point of view is interpreted as that in theory someone resigns to start a family to be able to devote himself entirely to the Community (or, supposedly, to so-called spiritual pursuits). Psychotherapy should inquire if the waiving of the couple and the family supposedly spiritualist motivated, perhaps masked conflicts and unresolved deficiencies of childhood. The purported celibacy has been the premise that has given rise to some mistakes and horrors.

Yamas and niyamas

Fortunately it exists within the sphere of the Dharma of the sila and the yamas and niyamas, which are all approximate and absolutely unavoidable character for the safeguard of the individuals who enter Yes enlightenment through yoga and meditation. They are important for beginners, intermediate students, but especially for those who intend to be guides.

There is no clause, exception or possible exception in the observance of the sila, the yama and niyama. The main thing of the observances focuses on not greed, the renunciation of the despotic attitudes, avoid the intoxicating and observe a sexuality that is not harmful. What is that? Thus, for example, which does not jeopardize solid relationships and the corresponding families, which does not create confusion in others with false promises or otherwise, that do not abuse a preeminent position and, finally, the that it does not precede the selfishness of the own satisfaction to the well-being of our fellow human beings.

Human sexuality should be governed by the jnana and Center ana, i.e. by the comprensión, and also by anahata, the heart, i.e. the compassion. And in this beginners may be exposed to make mistakes, but who wants to be a student or guide impersonates not can under no circumstances Err.

Which reminds me of the example that the stewardess that grabs the microphone to announce to passengers that the flight commander is foo in such and that is going to work hard and to pilot the aircraft the best that can. Or if they tell you that you will perform surgery Dr. Mengano or Dr. Zutana and that care must be taken not to commit many faults.

Guide coworkers in their self-discovery and realization is a delicate and absolute responsibility issue. It is necessary to be clear about what is essential. There are people who by the role they play and the confidence placed in them, can do no wrong.
